Mission Statement

    The College of Saint Elizabeth Holocaust Education Resource Center provides a variety of programs, resources, and educational opportunities for study of the Holocaust. It aims to encourage remembrance of the Holocaust and to promote respect for diversity. By providing an opportunity for serious Jewish-Christian Theological dialogue, it is opening doors through which many are experiencing mutual respect and understanding.

    The College began its first Kristallnacht commemorations in 1990 and established the Holocaust Education Resource Center in 1994. It was in 1994 that we also began collaborative work with the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education for teacher training.

  • American Catholic Theological Society's (ACTS) Subcommittee on Jewish-Christian Relations, and
  • Council of Centers on Jewish-Christian Relations

Center Offerings

  • Annual Kristallnacht commemorations.
  • Workshops for public and private school teachers in conjunction with the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education.
  • In service workshops for public and Catholic school teachers. 
  • Programs for secondary, public and Catholic school students. For example, presentations at state, national and international gatherings of teachers, religious groups, holocaust survivors and civic groups
  • Trips to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, the Museum of Jewish Heritage/A Living Memorial to the Holocaust and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.

Yom Hashoa programs

  • Involvement in various internet listservs for Holocaust scholars and educators
  • Conferences on Jewish-Christian theology
  • Participation by undergraduate students and faculty in the international leadership program MARCH OF REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE for study of the Holocaust in Poland and in Israel
    The Center draws on the disciplines of history, literature, the social sciences, education, theology and communications in developing its programs. It provides access to a full range of Holocaust curriculum and other resource material. The Center has produced its own specialized educational videos, "The Holocaust in a Catholic Educational Setting" and "Remembering Kristallnacht: A Survivor's Testimony."
